Sunday School continues to play a
vital role in the Church of God. It involves the
laity in ministry. Spiritual gifts are given a
forum for operation. Children, from infancy are
taught and nurtured. Youth experience the
learning of life-changing truths with their peers.
Adults encounter Christ through the study of His
Word.
Our
Purpose
The Sunday School is the primary
ministry in the local church to achieve the
command of Christ:
Go ye
therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of
the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all
things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo,
I am with you always, even unto the end of the
world. Amen. (Matthew 28:19-20)
Scripture mandates
that in order to fulfill this mission of Christ
the church must:
- Evangelize
- Assimilate
- Disciple
- Worship
- Serve
(cf. Deut. 6; Acts
2:38-47; Eph. 4:11-16)
Therefore the
purpose of the Sunday School is to reach people
for Christ and assimilate them into a local body
through life changing Bible study to lead them to
care, witness, fellowship, and worship.
